Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE - A basic knowledge of materials science and nanotechnology, and in the physical and chemical sciences; - A knowledge of mathematics necessary for the quantitative description and modelling of problems at the intermediate level of advancement; - Ability to understand and explain mathematical descriptions of regularities, phenomena, and processes; in particular to reproduce fundamental theorems and laws; - Knowledge of selected computational methods used to solve typical problems in materials science and nanotechnology, and of examples of how these methods may be implemented with the use of appropriate IT instruments; knowledge of the foundations of programming and software engineering; - Knowledge of the basic aspects of the construction and operation of the scientific apparatus used in materials science and nanotechnology; - Knowledge of the basic principles of safety and hygiene at work; - A basic knowledge of the legal regulations and ethical constraints associated with scientific and teaching activities; - Knowledge of the fundamental ideas and principles in the protection of industrial property and copyright; ability to use patented information; - Knowledge of the general principles for the establishment and running of a private business. SKILLS - Ability to analyse problems and find solutions on the basis of the theorems and methods he/she has learned; - Ability to conduct quantitative analyses and calculate the associated uncertainty, and to formulate qualitative conclusions on this basis; - Ability to plan and conduct simple experimental research and/or observations, and analyse the results; - Ability to apply selected computer software and programming languages; - Ability to create a presentation on a specific problem in materials science and/or nanotechnology and offer methods for its solution; - Ability to present basic facts relating to materials science and nanotechnology in a simple and readily comprehensible way; - Ability to study on his/her own and manage his/her time efficiently; - Ability to write typical papers in Polish and English on particular, detailed subjects, using the basic theoretical approaches and a variety of sources; - Ability to compile and deliver oral presentations in Polish and English on particular, detailed subjects, using the basic theoretical approaches and a variety of sources; - Foreign language proficiency in English at the B2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. SOCIAL COMPETENECES - Appreciation of the need for lifelong education; - Facility for teamwork and group activity performing various tasks in the team/group; appreciation of the need to carry out his/her duties conscientiously and punctually; - Ability to determine the priorities in the planning and achievement of the tasks set him/her by him/herself or by others; - Ability to recognise and resolve the problems arising in his/her professional activities; - Appreciation of the need to enhance his/her personal and professional qualifications; - Appreciation of the social aspects of the practical application of the knowledge and skills he/she has acquired; a sense of responsibility associated with this; - Ability to think and act in an enterprising way.
