Professional status:

A graduate of the first-cycle degree is able to gather and interpret acquired information and empirical data and on the basis of it formulate diagnoses concerning selected areas of social reality. He/she can conduct social research on a professional basis, but not perform it alone or manage a research team. A bachelor-level graduate in sociology can also communicate the results of his/her analysis to their audience and is aware of the limitations of knowledge transfer. A graduate in a vocational sociological first-cycle degree also possesses knowledge and capabilities designated by laws concerning the professions in which graduates of this degree are employed. A graduate of the bachelor's degree may find employment in public, private and non-profit institutions. He/she is prepared for commencing a second-cycle (master's) degree.

Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE - a well-ordered knowledge within the scope of Humanities and social sciences, an elementary knowledge of the place of sociology in the system of sciences and its relations to other disciplines - a basic knowledge of structures, selected social institutions, and their mutual relations - a basic knowledge of regional, national and international institutions, as well as issues concerning European integration - a basic knowledge of types of social bonds, as well as phenomena governing those bonds; comprehension of the social nature of relations between individuals, groups, and social institutions - a basic knowledge of a human as subject constituting social structures, awareness of the significance of groups in creating social identity of a human, a basic knowledge of mechanisms of dynamics of social structures, as well as mutual dependencies between a group and an individual - knowledge of basic methods and techniques in social research, as well as ability to choose research methods in order to solve simple research problems, comprehension of the specificity of sociological analysis, ability to plan as well as conduct simple quantitative and qualitative empirical research - a basic knowledge of norms and rules which organise social structures and institutions, a basic knowledge of institutions and organisations which are responsible for transmission of norms and rules in the society, such as: educational system, law, morality, religion, etc. - a basic knowledge of processes which are basis of social stability and social change, comprehension of what those processes involve, awareness of processes which take place in both Polish and global society, as well as their consequences concerning social attitudes and institutions - awareness of theoretical and methodological disputes in contemporary sociology which concern structures and institutions, as well as types of social bonds and their historical evolution - knowledge as well as observance of rules of professional ethics, including rules of industrial and intellectual property protection law - knowledge of rules of creating as well as developing forms of individual entrepreneurship, with the appliance of knowledge concerning Humanities and social sciences SKILLS - ability to identify as well as interpret social phenomena (political, cultural, economic), applying sociological notions and theories in a methodological proper manner - ability to acquire data as well as apply basic sociological notions and categories in order to analyse specific social processes and phenomena - ability to apply basic theoretical categories in order to describe and analyse social changes in contemporary societies - ability to make a simple analysis of consequences and forecasts of processes which take place in contemporary societies - ability to apply ethical norms and rules in a research practice in order to solve specific sociological tasks - ability to express opinions on motives of human actions, as well as forecast social consequences of those actions - basing on the acquired knowledge, ability to present a general assessment of actions taken in order to solve specific social problems - ability to comprehend as well as analyse social phenomena - ability to prepare typical written studies in both Polish and a foreign language, concerning detailed issues, with the appliance of basic theoretical approaches and various sources - ability to prepare speeches in both Polish and a foreign language, concerning detailed issues, with the appliance of basic theoretical approaches and various sources - linguistic skills within the scope of areas of science and scientific disciplines related to the completed field of study, in accordance with requirements stated for the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages SOCIAL COMPETENCES - comprehension of the need of life-long learning as well as ability to develop professional skills with the appliance of modern means and methods - ability to work in a team and effectively communicate with others; a graduate presents ethical sensitivity, responsibility, as well as interest in social issues - ability to define priorities in order to carry out undertaken actions - awareness as well as ability to properly solve dilemmas related to a pursued profession - involvement in preparation as well as carrying out social projects - ability to improve the acquired knowledge and skills - ability to think and act in an entrepreneurial way
