Professional status:

Completion of the programme of study prepares a graduate to work in institutions of the public life (public administration, local authorities, non-governmental organisations, social assistance), as well as perform work which involves analyses, expertise and diagnoses. A graduate has acquired the right to pursue the profession of a social assistant, as well as to be employed in that position on the basis of Article 16 para 1 point 3 and para 1a of the Act of 12th March 2004 on Social Assistance (consolidated text Journal of Laws of 2009 No. 175, item 1362, as amended).

Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 162/XI/2013 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 27th November 2013 on establishing at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University a full-time second-cycle programme of study of a general academic profile within the field of study Social Work, as of the 2014/2015 academic year, and the introduction of learning outcomes for the field of study Social Work, second-cycle programme of a general academic profile, as of the 2014/2015 academic year. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE -an advanced knowledge concerning the nature, aims, and methods of social work, as well as its ontological, epistemological and axiological grounds; knowledge of the position of social work in the system of social sciences, as well as its relations to other sciences -an advanced knowledge of the structure and organisation of the social assistance system, major institutions which perform a social policy -an advanced knowledge of the structure and organisation of the social assistance system, major institutions which perform a social policy -an advanced knowledge of types of social bonds and regularities which are characteristic of them, as well as advanced knowledge concerning important to social work categories of social bonds -an advanced knowledge concerning a human being – its biological, mental, social and spiritual development – as well as cultural environment, which consists its socialising context -an advanced knowledge of selected methods and research techniques of social issues, as well as knowledge concerning an effective selection of research methods in order to solve research questions; knowledge concerning planning, as well as performing quantitative and qualitative research in order to identify a problem and make a social diagnosis -an advanced knowledge of selected norm and rules which govern assistance structures and institutions, as well as regularities which are characteristic of them; an advanced knowledge of their origins, nature and means of operation -an advanced knowledge of processes which are basis of stability and change of assistance structures, institutions and bonds, as well as knowledge of mechanisms and regularities which govern those changes -an advanced knowledge of theoretical and methodological disputes in contemporary social work on assistance structures, institutions and bonds, as well as their historical evolution -knowledge, comprehension and observance of professional ethics rules, including rules of industrial property law protection and copyright law -knowledge of general rules of establishing as well as developing forms of an individual entrepreneurship, which applies knowledge concerning social sciences SKILLS -ability to properly interpret, as well as explain social,political, cultural and economic, phenomena by using notions and theories of social work -ability to apply a theoretical knowledge in order to describe and analyse grounds and course of specified social processes and phenomena, as well as ability to present his/her own opinions and critically select both data and analyses methods -ability to properly analyse grounds and course of social processes and phenomena, as well as present his/her own hypotheses within that scope; ability to present research hypotheses and verify them -ability to forecast as well as model complex social processes which involve phenomena of various spheres of a social life with the appliance of advanced methods and instruments of social work -fluent appliance of normative systems in order to solve specified issues -ability to apply the acquired knowledge in various scopes and forms, advanced by a critical analysis of effectiveness as well as suitability of the applied knowledge -ability to propose actions which aim at solving specified social issues, as well as introduce solutions within that scope -ability to comprehend as well as analyse social phenomena, advanced by the ability to perform a thorough, theoretical assessment of those phenomena with the appliance of a proper research method -an advanced ability to prepare typical written studies, both in Polish and in a foreign language, concerning detailed issues, with the appliance of basic theoretical approaches, as well as various sources within the scope of social sciences -an advanced ability to prepare speeches, both in Polish and in a foreign language, with the appliance of basic theoretical approaches, as well as various sources within the scope of social sciences -linguistic skills concerning areas of science and scientific disciplines related to the completed field of study, in accordance with requirements stated for the level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages SOCIAL COMPETENCES -comprehension of the need of constant learning, as well as developing his/her social and professional skills with the appliance of modern means and methods; ability to inspire and organise learning process of others -ability to work in a team, acting in various roles, create inter-group cooperation networks, communicate on various levels in environment, applying various communication channels, including those of information character -ability to plan assistance actions, define their priorities, organise resources, as well as define effectiveness indicators -ability to identify as well as solve dilemmas related to an assistance sphere, including performance of social work -ability to involve himself/herself in preparation as well as performance of social projects; ability to predict multidirectional results of his/her activity -ability to enhance his/her knowledge and skills, also in an interdisciplinary dimension -ability to think as well as act in an entrepreneurial way within the scope of promotion, educational, advisory, assistance and management activities.
