Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE An advanced scope of knowledge on the status of Law Studies in the context of the other social sciences; knowledge of the basic concepts in the social sciences, and an advanced scope of knowledge on the concepts of Law Studies; An advanced scope of knowledge on the relations between the legal system and other social systems (the legal, political, and cultural systems); An advanced scope of knowledge on the functions of the legal system in the prevention and resolution of social conflicts (with consideration of the diverse concepts of society and the state); Knowledge of the constitutional system, structure, and operations of the state; Knowledge of the operations of individuals in various social contexts, and in particular of phenomena involving the violation of the law and their consequences; An advanced scope of knowledge on the evolution of the legal system (its norms, principles, institutions, and agencies); An advanced scope of knowledge on the Polish legal system in comparison with the legal systems of other states; An advanced scope of knowledge on legislative processes; An advanced scope of knowledge on processes for the implementation of the law; An advanced scope of knowledge on the structure of the Polish legal system and the relations between the various branches of the law; A thorough knowledge of the fundamental branches of substantive law and legal procedure (functions, institutions, principles, and norms); A broad scope of knowledge on detailed issues in his/her selected branches of the law; A thorough knowledge of the methods used in the study of law: analysis, argumentation, and interpretation; Knowledge of the basic methods applied to collect data for the comprehensive analysis of legal phenomena; Knowledge on the professional instruments used to obtain legal information; Knowledge on the forms for individual professional development; knowledge of the principles applicable in various types of business activities. SKILLS Knowledge and appreciation of the relations between the legal system and other social systems; Ability to analyse the Polish legal system in comparison with the legal systems of other states; Ability to analyse the Polish legal system from the historical perspective; Ability to identify the areas of social activity which are or may be subject to legal regulations from various branches of the law; Ability to explain legislative processes; Ability to explain processes for the implementation of the law; Ability to explain phenomena involving the violation of the law; Ability to determine, analyse, interpret, and classify conditions and situations which are to be associated with specific legal consequences; Ability to determine, analyse, and interpret the legal provisions applicable in the resolution of a given legal problem; Ability to conduct the legal classification of a given condition and situation; Ability to reach a decision on the legal consequences of a given situation or condition, and to give grounds for his/her decision; Ability to formulate and present research problems, and to apply a suitable methodology for their resolution; Ability to take up a position on current legal policy and to give grounds for his/her opinion; Ability to compile an oral presentation in Polish and a foreign language; Proficiency at the B2+ level in a foreign language on matters relating to the law and legal issues; Ability to collect information on Polish and foreign law; Ability to integrate knowledge of the law with knowledge from other academic disciplines. SOCIAL COMPETENCES Appreciation of the changeability of legal norms and of the need to keep up with new developments in this respect; Appreciation of the consequences for the individual and for society brought about by a lawyer’s decisions; Appreciation of the importance of professional ethics in a lawyer’s operations and activities; Appreciation of the need for continual activity to enhance public awareness of the law; Appreciation of the need for work on behalf of individuals in their relations with institutions of the jurisdictive system; Awareness of the potential for further education and ability to independently plan a strategy for his/her professional development; Appreciation of the fact that his/her decisions and activities will affect society’s opinion and assessment of the law and the institutions which implement it; An appreciation of the lawyer’s need for good interpersonal relations in the pursuit of his/her professional duties;Appreciation of the need to work for the protection of human rights.
