Professional status:

Graduates: -have knowledge regarding analysing and making political decisions, analysing of phenomena and processes in a public life; -have skills necessary to work both in government and self-government administration, political parties, international institutions and organisations, and in media; -have practical competences regarding negotiation techniques, political lobbing, skills related to a journalist profession as well as management of projects and public finances.

Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in the Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates have acquired: -an extended knowledge of the character of political sciences and their place in the system of social sciences, as well as of their relations towards other sciences; -an extended knowledge of structures and ways of functioning of particular political institutions in Polish, European and global dimension; -knowledge of basic scientific patterns, research approaches, as well as terminology applicable in political sciences; -knowledge and comprehension of main conceptions, as well as the evolution of political thought in Polish, European and world-wide dimension; -an advanced knowledge and extended comprehension of processes related to the change of social and political structures and institutions; -a thorough knowledge of the role of an individual in the social life, from the historic and contemporary perspective, as well as his/her interactions towards his/her closest social environment; -an advanced knowledge of political and legal norms; -an extended knowledge of the intellectual property protection; -a well-organised knowledge of organisation of social and political institutions, as well as of entrepreneurship within the scope of their activity; -thorough knowledge and comprehension of methods as well as instruments which are applied in order to research, describe and explain social and political processes; -an extended knowledge of local communities and their political organisation; -an advanced knowledge of social, political and economic institutions, as well as of means of politics management; -an extended knowledge of functioning of media systems both in Europe and in the world, as well as of basic mechanisms of political communication. Graduates have acquired the following skills: -to interpret creatively social and political, legal as well as economic phenomena; -to use a basic theoretical knowledge in order to analyse, express his/her own opinions and explain mechanisms of an individual and a social groups behaviour in a public life; -to describe and explain independently the role of social and political structures both in a contemporary state and in the world, as well as to frame simple hypothesis together with creating an argumentation strategies; -to explain critically and independently the role of a state, its institutions and its policy in a society’s life, as well as to specify in an analytic way competencies of social and political institutions; -to apply critically assumptions of research approaches in order to point strengths and weaknesses of scientific theories and researches in political sciences; -to apply independently a normative system, as well as to interpret creatively basic rules of law, which are related to a state, social and political, and economic institutions in Polish and international dimension; -to apply the knowledge acquired in order to solve issues related to working in certain public institutions, organisationsand enterprises, as well as to define its usefulness; -to perform extended analysis of social mechanisms of political life and observe political phenomena in a broad social and cultural context, using a particular research method; -to compile typical written papers in Polish as well as in other chosen foreign language, using methodology applicable in political sciences; -to prepare speeches in Polish as well as in other chosen foreign language, using methodology applicable in political sciences; -linguistic skills covering the terminology of political sciences, according to demands specified for level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; -to build independently an argumentation strategy as well as to express his/her own opinions and views; -to analyse and interpret the content of mass media, as well as toapply it in a public debate and activity. Graduates: -are aware of the scope of hi/her knowledge and skills as well as recognize the need of continuous education and professional development, can inspire others in order to do so; -have extended awareness of different points of view, which are determined by distinct political, cultural and social ground; -have well-established awareness of the meaning of professionalism as well as ethical acting in professional and public activity; -are prepared to solve, on his/her own, issues related to professional activity in public organisations and institutions, including public authority institutions, political parties and other national or international organisations; -are prepared to lead small teams; -participate in social and political life, also are prepared to monitor as well as apply evaluation procedures in the public sphere; -are aware of the need of participation in the civil society building; -are able to think independently and creatively as well as to act enterprisingly.
