Professional status:

Graduates: - have general knowledge which not only allows understanding of political phenomena and processes which take place on global, regional, national and local scale, but also analysing relations between functioning of political institutions, societies and individuals. - Have knowledge of historic conditions as well as contemporary mechanisms of political systems operation. - Can apply the knowledge acquired both in professional activity and in life, observing ethical rules; can solve simple professional issues, participate in team work, lead teams which perform delegated tasks, communicate with others, gather, hierarchize, process and transmit data. - Are prepared to work both in government and self-government administration, political parties, economic and social institutions, international institutions and organisations. - Are prepared to enrol to second cycle studies.

Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in the Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates have acquired the knowledge of: -the character of political sciences, their genesis and development, their place in the system of social sciences and relations towards other sciences; basic research approaches, theories as well as terminology applicable in political sciences; -structures, ways of functioning, as well as change processes of particular political institutions in Polish, European and world-wide dimension; -main conceptions, as well as the evolution of political thought in Polish, European and world-wide dimension; -the social basis of policy, as well as of social and political processes in both individual and group dimension; -the economic basis of political phenomena; -the role of an individual in the social life, from the historic and contemporary perspective, as well as his/her interactions towards his/her closest social environment; -political and legal norms; -functioning of media systems both in Europe and in the world, as well as of basic mechanisms of political communication; -the intellectual property protection; -organisation of social and political institutions, as well as entrepreneurship forms within the scope of their activity; -methods as well as instruments which are applied in order to research and describe social and political processes; -local communities and their political organisation. Graduates have acquired the following skills: -to interpret properly social and political, legal as well as economic phenomena; -to use a basic theoretical knowledge in order to analyse and explain mechanisms of an individual and a group behaviour in a public life; -to describe and explain the role of social and political institutions in Polish, European and global dimension; -to explain the role of a state, its institutions and its policy in a society’s life, as well as to specify competencies of social and political institutions; -to apply research methods and techniques in order to describe and analyse political phenomena, as well as to specify relations between demographic phenomena and political and economic processes; -to apply basic terminology of political sciences, as well as to identify and apply terminology related to particular approaches in political sciences; -to apply normative systems, as well as to interpret basic rules of law, which are related to a state, social and political and economic institutions; -to apply the knowledge acquired in order to solve issues related to working in certain public institutions, organisations, as well as enterprises; -to analyse social mechanisms of political life and observe political phenomena in a broad social and cultural context; -to compile a typical written paper in Polish, applying methodology applicable to the completed field of study; -to prepare a speech in Polish, using methodology applicable to the completed field of study; -linguistic skills covering the terminology of political sciences, according to demands specified for level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; -to analyse and compare various currents in political thought, as well as to explain mechanisms of continuity and change in thinking and political activity in both historic and contemporary perspective, in Polish, European and world-wide dimension; -to analyse and interpret the content of mass media, as well as to apply it in a public debate and activity. Graduates: -are prepared to active participation in public life, as well as to work in teams which perform social, political and civil goals; -are aware of different points of view, which are determined by distinct political, cultural and social ground; -are aware of the meaning of professionalism as well as ethical acting in professional and public activity; -are prepared to solve issues related to professional activity in public organisations and institutions, including public authority institutions, political parties and other national or international organisations; -are prepared to lead small teams; -are prepared to monitor as well as apply evaluation procedures in the public sphere; -are aware of the need of participation in the civil society building; -are willing to acquire knowledge as well as to improve and develop skills.
