The completion of the study programme ensures the achievement of the educational effects set in the Jagiellonian University Senate Act No 34/III/2012 of 28 March 2012 concerning the introduction of the educational effects of the study programmes carried out at the Jagiellonian University beginning with the academic year 2012/2013, including later amendments. The graduate from the second cycle study programme in Literary and Cultural Translation Studies has the following qualifications as far as their knowledge, skills and social competences are concerned: KNOWLEDGE understands the role and the status of literary studies in the contemporary humanities, their focus and research methodology; knows the theory of translation, its major trends, research methods and modern achievements; knows and can creatively use terminology, theories, paradigms and research methods in Polish and in a selected foreign language; understands the complexities of the role and the historical context of language, literature and culture; understands their relation with translation; knows the history of translation in Poland and the works of important translation authors; knows the methods of the analysis, interpretation, evaluation and problem categorization of the texts of culture; understands the place and role of translation in this context; knows modern Polish literature and its history; knows the history of and modern trends in the literature of a chosen languages; is well acquainted with contemporary Polish literary culture, knows well institutions carrying out literary activities and events and has some basic knowledge of the literary and translation culture abroad; knows and understands fundamental notions and rules related to the copyrights protection and the necessity to manage the resources of intellectual property; knows the workings of institutions concerned with translation and the mechanisms ruling the publishing market in Poland and abroad. SKILLS is able to skilfully translate written, non-specialist and quasi-specialist texts from a chosen foreign language to Polish, with a special emphasize on literary texts and texts of a general, humanist character; is able to evaluate the quality of a translated text and to produce written works bearing the academic critical characteristics, especially in the field of the theory of translation and its criticism; is able to pass well-grounded value judgments, especially related to translation decisions and other aspects of the role translation plays in culture; is able to plan and carry out original translation projects; is able to independently search for, analyze, evaluate, select and codify information, especially in the context of translation; is able to prepare complex presentations in Polish and in a chosen foreign language, especially in the field of theory, practice and criticism of translation; is able to skillfully analyze and interpret texts, especially translated texts, using a variety of methods; is able to manage and present the results of an analysis, which make it possible to solve translation problems and those that belong to a variety of disciplines in the humanities; is able to analyze cultural and social phenomena in the context of translation and to interpret them using original, innovative approaches and tools of modern humanities; is able to construct rationale arguments using their own views and their knowledge of theory, to form conclusions and synthetic summaries, especially in relation to translation criticism and practice; is able to independently acquire knowledge, consciously develop their abilities and plan their professional career; is able to use knowledge of copyrights law and intellectual property protection in practice; is able to collaborate with publishing institutions; has language skills in a chosen language appropriate for the requirements of the C1 level set in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, especially as far as translation competences are concerned. SOCIAL COMPETENCES understands the necessity of continuous, life-time education and the significance of a constant self-development for their translation skills; knows how to collaborate in a team and to assume various team roles, knows how to independently organize and carry out set tasks, especially in a team working on a translation project; is able to think and act creatively while plotting his career path and to apply mechanisms of translation marker in Poland and abroad; knows and uses in practice the ethical rules of translation work and knows how to apply those rules in translation problem and dilemma solving. actively preserves cultural heritage, especially considering the role of translation in maintaining cultural heritage; consistently participates in cultural, political, social and artistic life, constantly bearing in mind a necessity to improve their translation skills.
