Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE - Knowledge as well as comprehension of basic tendencies in Polish literature in 20th and 21st century in the world context, orientation in major programme and conceptual phenomena, knowledge of representatives as well as major texts of writers who are representative for literary generations and groups of this period; - Knowledge and comprehension of major concepts concerning theory of literature, knowledge of their major representatives as well as representative texts; - A wide and structured knowledge of methods, theories, terminology concerning literature and language in the context of other social sciences and Humanities; - Orientation in contemporary Polish literary culture, ability to present institutions of Polish literary life (magazines, awards, publishing houses, societies) and place them at the background of world phenomena; - An advanced and well-ordered knowledge of theories concerning literature and language (their origins, nature and structure) particularly taking into consideration achievements of linguistics and literary science; - Comprehension of the need of management of resources of intellectual property concerning literature as well as studies in literature, culture and language; - A comprehensive knowledge of relations between various literary and cultural phenomena, which enables integration of perspectives characteristic of several scientific disciplines; - A detailed knowledge of the place and significance of comparative studies as well as subjective and methodological specificity of comparative literary science; - An extensive knowledge and comprehension of the role of comparative research, knowledge of major directions of development as well as positions of contemporary comparative theories, a detailed knowledge of contemporary achievements, centres and research schools both in Poland and in the world; - A wide and structured knowledge of methods, theories, terminology and theories concerning literary comparative studies; - An advanced knowledge of methods of interpretation and comparative analysis of a literary text; - A well-ordered, advanced, detailed knowledge of selected issues within the scope of comparative studies, which leads to specialization; a satisfactory knowledge of literature and culture of other countries. SKILLS - Ability to determine frames of literary discourses of each period, specify their dominants as well as name philosophical ideas connected to them; - Ability to interpret a contemporary literary text, place it in the cultural, historical, political and social, as well as anthropological context; - Ability to write a critical text, an essay, a review or a popular and scientific article; - Research abilities involving both analysis of works concerning theoretical linguistics and synthesis of views an ideas presented in those works; - Advanced ability to apply theoretical approaches, research paradigms, and notions characteristic of Humanities; - Ability to identify and specify genetic as well as typological relations between literary texts and texts on culture; ability to express research problems; - Ability to creatively apply the knowledge of world literature and comparative methodologies in order to express interpretative hypothesis in both oral and written form; - Advanced ability to apply theoretical approaches, research paradigms, and notions characteristic of comparative studies; - Ability to write on his/her own, under supervision of a tutor, monographic comparative studies, basing on selected literature and taking into consideration current research; - Linguistic skills in accordance with requirements stated for the level B2+ and higher of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. SOCIAL COMPETENCES - Awareness of the significance of Polish language and literature in the social life, as well as ability to apply those competences in activity concerning research, media and education; - Awareness of the significance of Polish language and literature, as well as cultural processes connected to language, literature and literary life; active participation in those processes; - Active development of competences concerning Polish studies by reading literary, critical and scientific texts; - Concern for linguistic correctness in his/her social and professional environment; - Ability to cooperate and work in a team, ability to apply acquired skills and experience in educational process of other people; - Ability to meet requirements of labour market in educational institutions, cultural institutions, companies (publishing houses, editorial offices), and non-profit institutions; - Active participation in social and cultural life, applying the knowledge of relations between various fields of arts in order to assess cultural phenomena; ability to recognize values involved in cultural diversity presented in literature and arts; - An in-depth awareness of the significance of relations between literatures of various nations for Polish and world contemporary culture, as well as relations between literature and other fields of arts; active participation in actions aiming at preservation of cultural heritage; - Ability to participate consciously and constructively in an international linguistic, literary, artistic and cultural exchange.
