Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE - a basic knowledge of periodization of Polish literature in the context of world literature, knowledge of major representatives, phenomena of literature and culture of particular literary periods, comprehension of the notion of trend, style, convention within a given period; - knowledge and comprehension of major notions concerning poetics, ability to name major trends in theories of literature of the 20th century, as well as their key representatives; - knowledge of contemporary Polish literature, major Polish prose writers, poets, dramatists and critics, as well as their works; knowledge of major cultural institutions, particularly Polish, as well as orientation in contemporary cultural life; - knowledge of the structure, functioning as well as development of general Polish language and its linguistic forms; comprehension of the significance of language as an instrument of social communication and transferring cultural values, as well as an artistic material; - knowledge of basic rhetoric mechanisms and communication strategies, as well as knowledge and comprehension of their significance both in public presentations and in interpersonal contacts; - knowledge of artistic achievements of selected authors of Polish literature from the Middle Ages till now; - knowledge and comprehension of relations between Polish literature to spiritual as well as material culture of particular periods; - an elementary knowledge of the ancient and biblical heritage in the modern Polish and European culture; - knowledge and comprehension of basic notions and rules of intellectual property protection, as well as the copyright law; - a basic knowledge of the history of Polish literature in the context of the history of world literature (particularly European), as well as knowledge of the world literature; - a basic knowledge of the significance of comparative studies, as well as subjective and methodological specificity of comparative literary science; - an elementary knowledge of relations between literature and painting, visual arts, as well as literature and music; - knowledge of basic methods of interpretation of literary texts in the comparative aspect, both in Polish and in foreign languages; - a well-ordered detailed knowledge of selected issues concerning comparative studies; SKILLS - ability to interpret a literary work, applying various methods, place it in the historical and literary, cultural, and biographical contexts; ability to refer a literary text to other work of art; - ability to identify rhetorical as well as linguistic terms, explain their functions and refer them to interpretation; - ability to prepare as well as present on his/her own typical written studies and speeches, both in Polish and in a foreign language, on various levels of formality; - ability to use arguments, forms and linguistic constructions, knowing their rhetoric and persuasive effect, as well as communicative efficiency; - skills concerning synchronic as well as diachronic analysis of linguistic forms and texts of typical speech acts; - ability to specify value as well as stylistic usefulness of linguistic terms, and make use of various types of dictionaries; - ability to specify value as well as stylistic usefulness of linguistic terms, and make use of various types of dictionaries, data bases; ability to assess linguistic correctness of written and spoken texts on the level of both standard and applied norm; - ability to describe major topics and major ideas of Polish literature from the Middle Ages till now, as well as its relations to spiritual and material culture of particular periods; - linguistic skills (concerning minimum two languages) in accordance with requirements stated for the level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; - ability to read, analyse, interpret as well as compare, both in both oral and written form, literary texts in various languages; - ability to identify and specify relations and typological links between literary texts and music, and plastic works of art; - ability to write comparative treatises, selecting argumentation strategies, applying literature of the subject and views of other authors, and developing conclusions on his/her own; - ability to conduct, under supervision of a tutor, a comparative research work SOCIAL COMPETENCES - awareness of the significance of Polish literature and language for national and regional culture; ability to appreciate national literature and culture in comparison to foreign literatures ; - awareness of the role of literature in social integration, as well as active participation in such process; - concern for preservation of Polish linguistic heritage and promotion of models of correct language and good manner; - awareness of the scope of acquired knowledge and skills concerning Polish language and comparative studies, comprehension of the need of constant advancing and developing the knowledge and skills; - awareness of the significance of community of cultural heritage for understanding past as well as contemporary social, artistic and cultural phenomena; - knowledge and comprehension of the idea of multiculturalism which enables cultivating the idea of intercultural and social dialogue from the perspective of participant of the Polish culture; intentional as well as constructive participation in an international linguistic, literary, artistic and cultural exchange
