Professional status:

The graduates from the program Social media in management are prepared to take managerial and specialist positions in business, institutions and third sector organizations. Typical positions include Community manager, Social media manager, Content strategist, Social media specialist, Social media analyst, Visual communication specialist and YouTube specialist. The graduates can also utilize acquired competencies on managerial positions where the key success factor is profound understanding of a role social media play in a contemporary digital economy.

Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE - Graduates of the second-cycle programme of study in Management are able to interpret contemporary economic doctrines and concepts of organisation, using a broad scope of the terminology of the economic and social sciences; and to - Explain the essence and dynamics of contemporary social, environmental, economic, and political systems, and their potential relations; - Identify and explain the economic, social, environmental, and managerial effects of cultural phenomena, both on the scale of the organisation (company) and of territorial units, in the light of the contemporary theoretical approaches; - Indicate the economic, social, environmental, and managerial effects of differences in level of economic advancement for countries (states) and territorial units; - They have a knowledge of contemporary concepts of, and instruments for co-operation and competition between different economic systems and organisations; - They are able to explain the concept of sustainable socio-economic growth; - They are able to explain why business activity carries a social responsibility, and indicate instances of its occurrence and its dysfunctions in commercial practice; - They have a knowledge of contemporary achievements in the psychology of business and the sociology of organisations, and are able to apply it to practical problems in management; - They are able to explain the contemporary concepts of teamwork, referring to examples; - They have a knowledge of the foundations of the methodology of scientific research and of the principles for the creation of research instruments; - They have a knowledge of the advanced applications of advanced statistical and econometric methods, and of the IT tools for data collection, analysis, and presentation in organisations; - They have a knowledge of the specialist research methods for the various areas of activity pursued by an organisation; - They have a knowledge of the contemporary concepts of, and methods used to measure and manage an organisation’s achievements; - They have a knowledge of the EU regulations, directives, and recommendations for the operations of public, economic, and non-government organisations, and of the operations of the single European market; - They are able to explain the principles and significance of restructuration processes and strategic renewal in an organisation; - They are able to identify the basic strategies for effecting change in a social system; - They are able to identify the basic strategies for negotiation; - They have a knowledge of the ideas and principles of the protection of industrial property and copyright; - They have a knowledge of the general and particular principles for the creation and development of various types of entrepreneurship; - They are able to present a picture of the future organisation, integrating the ideas put forward in the classical and contemporary theory of organisation and management. SKILLS - Graduates of the second-cycle programme of study in Management (with a particular specialisation) hold the following specialist skills which may be applied in professional or academic work in the given field, qualifying them to - Apply specialist knowledge of a given field of study related to Management (in combination with their specialisation), in their professional or advanced academic work; - Embark on independent activities in commercial business or the social fields, or in consultancy for the establishment and running of new business entities; - Engage in in-depth observation of phenomena and processes in an organisation, and analyse and interpret them applying advanced theoretical approaches and research paradigms; - Identify and formulate research tasks to analyse complex problems, processes, and phenomena in an organisation and on the national economy scale, as well as on the international and global scale; - Select appropriate methods and instruments for the description and analysis of problems and areas of activity in an organisation and its environment, and assess their applicability and effectiveness; - Model and forecast the development of selected processes in an organisation, using advanced econometric methods and IT instruments, and working with specialists in the field; - Design a system to measure a company’s/organisation’s achievements and implement it in its management; - Integrate knowledge from a variety of fields to create innovative ways for the resolution of problems; - Participate in strategic decision-making processes and the proposal of procedures to resolve problems using advanced methods and instruments to support decision-making processes; - Conduct comprehensive diagnoses of a given situation and perform a critical analysis of potential alternative strategies; - Conduct a comprehensive audit of selected areas in a company or of the entire organisation; - Apply the relevant norms and standards at an integrated level in the planning, organising, motivating, and supervising of work, quality etc.; - Apply the relevant provisions of national and EU law for business and social activities to support specific operations, decisions, and activities undertaken in public organisations; - Design changes in organisations and manage such changes; - Design and implement management systems in organisations; - Manage projects on the national or international level using appropriately selected methods; - Select and manage human, material, financial, and information resources for the efficient and successful achievement of management tasks; - Interpret current problems in business and the economy in the light of modern theoretical concepts. SOCIAL COMPETENCES - Graduates are qualified to create and participate in projects carried out by interdisciplinary teams working in and outside the organisation; and also to - Design and independently manage complex undertakings, taking economic, social, political, environmental, and managerial aspects into consideration; - Communicate and establish working relations with persons in and beyond the organisation, and transmit their knowledge to non-specialists in management; - Conduct discussions and debates, negotiate and apply the methods of persuasion in order to achieve common aims; - Adapt to conditions prevalent in international environments, and in particular in European companies and institutions; - Acquire knowledge and professional skills independently, in teamwork, and within the organisation, in the conditions of European integration processes and globalisation; - Design and conduct scientific research, independently and in teamwork, using a variety of information sources; - Observe and promote an ethical attitude and social sensitivity, also in their duties in the organisation and in society; - Take independent, responsible decisions in crisis situations, both on the micro- and macro-scale; - Assume responsibility for their decisions with respect to other members of the organisation and society at large.
