Professional status:

The graduate is capable of scholarly work in institutions of higher education, research institutes, museums and conservation institutions, non-commercial and commercial galleries, editorial boards of publishers and journals, as well as in the institutions of general art education. The graduation in art history enables also to work as a teacher, unless the requirements specified for the teachers education standards are met.

Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE an advanced knowledge of a subjective and methodological specificity of humanities, ability to develop the acquired knowledge as well as creatively apply the knowledge in a professional activity knowledge of the terminology of humanities on an advanced level a well-ordered and advanced knowledge regarding the terminology, theories and methodology of the history of art and other historical sciences a well-ordered and advanced detailed knowledge, which leads to specialization, regarding areas of science and scientific disciplines related to the history of art an advanced knowledge of areas of science and scientific disciplines related to the history of art, allowing to integrate perspectives of several scientific disciplines a detailed knowledge of contemporary research achievements, centres and schools, involving selected fields of areas of science as well as scientific disciplines related to the history of art knowledge and comprehension of advanced methods of analysis, interpretation, assessment and problems defining in relation to various products of culture, which are related to selected traditions, theories or research schools within the scope of areas of science and scientific disciplines linked with the history of art knowledge and comprehension of basic notions and principles of the intellectual property protection law an advanced knowledge of the complex nature of language as well as of historical variability of its meanings a basic knowledge of cultural institutions as well as orientation in a contemporary cultural life SKILS ability to search for, analyse, assess, select and integrate information, applying various sources, as well as to express on that basis critical judgments advanced research skills, which involve ability to analyse works of other authors, ability to synthesise variety of ideas and views, ability to choose methods as well as to prepare research instruments, ability to process and present outcomes; those skills allow the graduate to solve in an original way complex problems within the scope of areas of science and scientific disciplines related to the history of art ability to acquire knowledge on his/her own, as well as to develop his/her research skills and undertake independent actions aiming at developing his/her abilities and managing his/her professional career ability to integrate knowledge related to various disciplines within humanities, as well as to apply it in unusual professional situations ability to perform a critical analysis and interpretation of various types of works of art, applying original approaches, which involve new achievements of humanities, in order to determine their meaning, social impact as well as their status in the historical and cultural process ability to argue substantively, applying both his/her own views and views of other authors, ability to express conclusions and prepare synthetic summaries ability to express critical opinions on products of culture on the basis of scientific knowledge and experience; ability to present critical studies in various forms and in various media ability to communicate, applying various communication channels and techniques, with specialists in the history of art and related areas of science and disciplines, as well as with non-specialists, both in Polish and in a foreign language; ability to promote knowledge regarding humanities as well as products of culture and cultural institutions an advanced ability to prepare various papers, both in Polish and in a foreign language which is considered to be crucial for areas of science and scientific disciplines related to the history of art an advanced ability to prepare speeches, both I Polish and in a foreign language, regarding the history of art or the scope connected to different scientific disciplines linguistic skills regarding the history of art, as stated for the level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages SOCIAL COMPETENCES comprehension of the need of life-long learning ability to inspire others, as well as to organise the learning process of other people ability to cooperate as well as to work within a group of people, acting in different roles ability to determine priorities in order to perform a task specified by himself/herself or by others ability to identify and solve dilemmas related to his/her professional activity an active participation in activities aiming at preservation of cultural heritage of the region, the country, Europe and Asia Minor regular participation in the cultural life, interest in contemporary cultural events, innovative forms of artistic expression, new phenomena in art
