Professional status:

The graduate is capable of work in museums and conservation institutions, non-commercial and commercial galleries, editorial boards of publishers and journals, as well as in the institutions of general art education. The graduation in art history enables also to work as a teacher, unless the requirements specified for the teachers education standards are met.

Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE a basic of knowledge of the status and significance of the history of art in the system of science, as well as of its subjective and methodological specificity knowledge and comprehension of the terminology related to the history of art a well-organised general knowledge regarding the terminology, theories as well as methodology of the history of art a well-organised detailed knowledge regarding the history of art a basic knowledge of areas of science as well as of scientific disciplines related to the history of art a basic knowledge of the main directions of development as well as of the most important new achievements regarding the history of art knowledge as well as comprehension of basic methods of analysis as well as interpretation of works of art, related to selected theories and research schools knowledge as well as comprehension of basic notions and principles of the intellectual property protection law awareness of the complex nature of language as well as of its complexity and historical variability of its meanings a basic knowledge of cultural institutions as well as orientation in a contemporary cultural life SKILLS ability to search for, analyse, assess, select as well as use information, applying various sources and means basic research skills, which involve expressing and analysing research problems, choosing research methods and instruments, processing and presenting outcomes and allowing to resolve problems regarding the history of art, as well as related historical sciences ability to acquire knowledge on his/her own, as well as to develop his/her research skills, holding guidelines of the tutor ability to apply basic theoretical approaches, research paradigms and notions related to the studied discipline within humanities in typical professional situations ability to identify various types of works of art, as well as perform their critical analysis and interpretation, in order to determine their meanings, social impact and status in the historical and cultural process ability to argue substantially, applying views of other authors, as well as to express conclusions ability to communicate in Polish as well as in a foreign language, applying variety of communication channels and techniques, with specialists within areas of science and scientific disciplines related to the completed field of study ability to prepare papers in Polish as well as in foreign languages, regarding detailed issues, applying basic theoretical approaches as well as various sources ability to prepare speeches, both in Polish and in a foreign language, regarding detailed issues, applying basic theoretical approaches as well as various sources linguistic skills regarding areas of science and scientific disciplines related to the completed field of study, as stated for the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages SOCIAL COMPETENCES comprehension of the need of life-long learning ability to cooperate as well as to work within a group of people, acting in different roles ability to determine priorities in order to perform a task specified by himself/herself or by others ability to identify and solve dilemmas related to his/her professional activity awareness of the responsibility for preservation of cultural heritage in all topographical and historical scopes participation in the cultural life in a variety of its forms, using various media
