Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28 March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE - An advanced scope of knowledge on the status of European Studies in the sciences and humanities, and its connections with other disciplines as regards subject and methodology; - An advanced and well-ordered scope of knowledge on the relations between the various sub-disciplines of European Studies (law, political science, economics, history, the social sciences, and cultural studies); an extended knowledge of his/her special subject; - An advanced and well-ordered scope of knowledge of the terminology used in the humanities and - social sciences; - An advanced scope of knowledge on the research methods and instruments used in European Studies and of the techniques used to obtain and process data; as well as on how to formulate and verify research hypotheses; - Knowledge of the principles of political science and law, and of the protection of intellectual property; - An extended scope of knowledge of international public law, EU law, and European Council law, including issues associated with the protection of human rights (with additional details for graduates who have specialised in this area); - Knowledge of the issues involved in political ideas, the main ideological and political doctrines, and their mutual relations; - A coordinated, advanced scope of knowledge of the contemporary history of international relations, and of the contemporary political and social history of Poland and Europe; - A well-ordered, extended scope of knowledge of the theories of European integration, and ability to apply theoretical models in the analysis of European integration processes, including sub-regional integration; - An advanced scope of knowledge on the terminology pertaining to democratic and non-democratic forms of government; knowledge of the development of political systems in Europe and their current forms; - An advanced scope of knowledge on the institutional structure of the EU, including the nature of its particular institutions; knowledge on the contribution these institutions make to the decision-making processes in the EU; - An extended scope of knowledge on the range and operations of the EU common policies and their influence on the role and status of the EU in the system of international relations (with additional details for graduates who have specialised in this area); - An extended scope of knowledge of the terminology of the economic sciences and the operating principles of the common market (with additional details for graduates who have specialised in this area); - An extended scope of knowledge on international economic relations and European economic integration; - An extended scope of knowledge on the various types of social structures and social institutions, and of the relations between them (with additional details for graduates who have specialised in this area); - An extended, well-ordered scope of knowledge on the principal traditional and contemporary trends in anthropology, sociology, philosophy, and social psychology; appreciation of the historical and cultural factors which have exerted an influence on them; - An extended scope of knowledge on the European cultural heritage and contemporary cultural affairs, as well as on the work of the principal institutions engaged in cultural activities (with additional details for graduates who have specialised in this area); - Knowledge on the practical application of the information he/she has acquired and on the potential for development offered by European funds, both as regards personal development as well as the development of his/her own business activities; - An extended scope of knowledge on the role and significance of the mass media in social and political affairs; - A well-ordered knowledge of the ethical standards and principles; - A foundation knowledge of safety and hygiene at work in educational institutions; - Appreciation of the need to pursue a healthy lifestyle. SKILLS - Ability to identify, select, and correctly apply information, making use of an appropriate choice of sources and grading them; - Ability to read, understand, and perform a critical analysis of texts relating to subjects associated with European Studies, comparing them with other texts containing different opinions on the same subject and drawing his/her own conclusions; - An extended scope of research skills, including the formulation and analysis of reseach problems, the selection of research methods and tools, the compilation and presentation of research results for the resolution of problems pertaining to the academic disciplines in European Studies; - A capacity for the independent pursuit and development of his/her research skills, following the guidelines of his/her tutors and academic supervisor; - Ability to correctly apply the terminology pertaining to the academic disciplines in European Studies; - Ability to present an objective argument, making use of the opinions of various authors and showing due respect for different opinions expressed by other participants in the discussion; - Ability to apply the theories and schemas he/she has learned in the various fields of European Studies, to analyse developments and draw appropriate conclusions on the cause-and-effect relations between the observed phenomena; - Ability to express and defend his/her own opinions on social matters and worldview; - Ability to write essays on an academic subject in an independent and creative manner in Polish and a foreign language (or the language of instruction, if different from Polish), using a suitable selection of source materials and workshop resources; ability to write a final Magister paper entailing appropriately formulated and verified research hypotheses; - Ability to prepare and deliver an oral presentation in Polish and a selected foreign language (or the language of instruction, if different from Polish), compiled on the basis of his/her own individual work or the collective effort of a team; - Ability to reconstruct the history of European integration processes, as well as of the processes of regionalisation and globalisation in the world, and their influence on the nature of contemporary European societies; - Ability to follow the principles of honest and thorough academic work in his/her written and oral presentations; - Ability to work efficiently, individually and in a team, following the rules of fair competition; - Proficiency in two foreign languages, including at least one at the B2+ level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; - Ability to reconstruct the decision-making processes used in EU institutions and units; - Ability to analyse the social processes observed in the contemporary societies of the European countries, taking into consideration the nature of European political culture and civilisational identity; - Ability to make a contribution to academic discussion in the field of European Studies and to compile and deliver complex public presentations on European issues in Polish and a selected foreign language (or the language of instruction, if different from Polish); - Ability to integrate various theoretical approaches for the explanation of the origins and consequences of specific political, social, and economic phenomena; - Ability to plan and carry out a research project using a variety of approaches, methods, and research and analytical techniques. SOCIAL COMPETENCES - Awareness of the level of his/her knowledge and skills, and appreciation of the need for continual education and enhancement of his/her professional and personal skills; ability to plan his/her further development; - A capacity for efficient individual work and teamwork, performing a variety of duties in the group; - Ability to precisely define objectives in his/her work and determine the priorities in their achievement; - Awareness of his/her responsibility for the preservation of the cultural heritage of his/her region, country, and Europe; - Commitment to the development of his/her interests by contributing to cultural affairs; - Ability to think and act in an enterprising manner, applying his/her knowledge on the European funds; - Readiness for employment in the professional milieu; - Systematic adherence to the principles of professional integrity, treating others with respect; - Awareness of his/her responsibility for the outcomes of his/her work individually and in a team.
