Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE - A well-ordered foundation knowledge of the character and place of social sciences, particularly within the scope of areas of science and disciplines of science related to journalism and social communication, oriented to be applied in a selected sphere of social, media or promotion and advertising activity - Knowledge of a basic terminology of social sciences as well as of areas of science and disciplines of science related to journalism and social communication, including knowledge linked with selected sphere of social, media or promotion and advertising activity - Knowledge of the history and doctrines regarding evolution of media and the meaning of media, as well as of processes of social communication within society, knowledge of the reasons, course and consequences of these changes both in Poland and in the world - A foundation knowledge of the structure and functions of both social and political and media systems in contemporary information society, as well as of relations between these systems in Poland and in the world - A foundation knowledge of aims, organisation and functioning of institutions related to a selected sphere of social, media or promotion and advertising activity, as well as of legal and economic conditions of their functioning - Knowledge of legal conditions regarding media as well as the scope of qualifications in professional media and media-related activity - A foundation knowledge of methodology of tasks performing, norms, procedures and good practices applied in institutions related to a selected sphere of social, media or promotion and advertising activity - A basic knowledge of culture, media, promotion and advertising activity and its receivers, as well as a basic knowledge of methods of identification of needs and quality of services assessment - A basic knowledge of methods, instruments and techniques of research, regarding areas of science and disciplines of science related to journalism and social communication - Knowledge of basic notions and rules regarding industrial property protection and copyright - A basic knowledge of skills and abilities required in the profession of a press, radio, TV and new media journalist, as well as of sources of obtaining information - A foundation knowledge of skills and abilities of PR and advertising employee - A foundation knowledge of information technologies - A foundation knowledge of language as the mean of communication - An advanced knowledge of skills and abilities regarding the scope of a selected specialization: a journalist (journalist specialization), a new media employee (new media specialization), a PR/advertisement employee or a spokesman (advertisement and PR specialization) or a political communication expert (political communication specialization) SKILLS - Ability to identify, analyse, grade, select and use information, applying various sources and means, followed by substantially argumentation involving application of other authors views, as well as by expression of conclusions - Ability of independent pursuit and development of his/her professional skills related to a selected sphere of social, media or promotion and advertising activity - Ability of independent planning and realisation of typical projects related to a selected sphere of social, media or promotion and advertising activity, particularly basic skills regarding social research management required in developing diagnosis of media receivers needs and promotion and advertising activity - Ability to comprehend, analyse and interpret social phenomena, including cultural, political, legal and economic phenomena related to media activity and media-related activity - Ability to use a basic theoretical knowledge in order to describe and analyse certain communication processes as well as social phenomena related to media or promotion activity, ability to analyse their grounds, forecast their course as well as results - Basic skills regarding assessment of quality of services related to media or promotion and advertising activity - Basic ability to apply provisions of law regarding institutions related to a selected sphere of a social, media or promotion and advertising activity, particularly of copyright and those related to intellectual property management - Ability to prepare an application for grant in order to perform a project related to a selected sphere of a social, media or promotion and advertising activity - Ability to assess usefulness of various methods, procedures and good practices in tasks realisation and solving of issues related to a selected sphere of social, media or promotion and advertising activity, as well as to choose and apply a proper procedure - Knowledge of the culture of at least two language areas together with knowledge of their media sphere functioning (except for Polish language area) - Ability to communicate with specialists in areas of science as well as disciplines of science related to journalism and social communication, using variety of channels and techniques of communication, in Polish and in at least two foreign languages - Ability to prepare papers and give speeches in Polish and at least in two foreign languages which are considered to be basic for areas of science and disciplines of science related to journalism and social communication, regarding detailed issues and applying basic theoretical approaches as well as various sources - Linguistic skills within the scope of areas of science and disciplines of science related to journalism and social communication, according to demands specified for level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - Basic skills and abilities regarding a press, radio, TV and new media journalism, as well as a PR/advertisement employee or a spokesman, including skills obtained as a result of a professional training - Advanced skills and abilities regarding journalism (journalist specialization) or advanced skills and abilities regarding PR/advertising employee or a spokesman (advertisement and PR specialization) or advanced professional skills and abilities regarding journalism in the scope of new media (new media specialization) or advanced skills and abilities regarding political communication (political communication specialization) - Ability to identify, describe and apply various styles of speech - Ability to prepare a journalistic material for all types of media - Ability to prepare an effective message of persuasive, informative or promotion character SOCIAL COMPETENCES - Comprehension of the need of lifelong learning, ability to complete and improve knowledge and skills obtained - Ability to cooperate and work within a group, acting in certain roles - Ability to properly specify priorities which are useful in realisation of a specified task - Ability to properly identify and solve questions related to professional activity - Awareness of the responsibility for preservation of cultural heritage on the regional, national and European level - Awareness of responsibility for consequences of his/her professional activities within media as well as media-related sphere - Knowledge of axiological codes as well as of ethical codes regulating activities performed within media sphere and in other media-related professions - Ability to notice all aspects of manipulation, both in media as well as in media-related proessional activity
