Graduates who complete the programme of study have acquired the learning outcomes specified in Resolution No. 34/III/2012 adopted by the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on 28th March 2012 on the introduction of learning outcomes for particular fields of study conducted at the Jagiellonian University as of the 2012/2013 academic year, with later amendments. Graduates hold the following qualifications as regards knowledge, skills, and social competences: KNOWLEDGE: - knowledge of basic terminology applied in cultural studies, as well as its appliance within the scope of related scientific disciplines; - a basic knowledge of the specificity of the discipline, the place of cultural studies in the system of sciences, as well as its subjective and methodological relations to other scientific disciplines; - a general knowledge of terminology, theories and research methods concerning Humanities and social sciences; - a well-ordered detailed knowledge of theory of culture, as well as research methods in cultural studies; - knowledge of ancient as well as contemporary Buddhist cultures of the East; - knowledge and comprehension of basic methods of analysis and interpretation of various products of culture (language, arts, religion, law); - a basic knowledge of various dimensions of Buddhist culture, as well as its connections to other spheres of social life; - a general knowledge of cultural transformations in Buddhist countries in Asia; - knowledge as well as comprehension of basic Buddhist canonic texts - knowledge as well as comprehension of basic notions and rules of industrial property protection and copyright law. SKILLS: - basic research abilities which enable to formulate as well as analyse research problems under supervision of a tutor; - ability to acquire knowledge on his/her own, as well as analyse scientific texts concerning cultural studies and related disciplines; - ability to apply basic theoretic approaches, research paradigms and notions characteristic of cultural studies in order to analyse cultural phenomena; - ability read and write in classic languages of Buddhist cultures (Pali, Sanskrit, the Tibetan language); - ability to recognize various types of products of Buddhist culture, as well as perform their critical analysis and interpretation in accordance with theoretical and methodological directives of research perspectives characteristic of cultural studies; - ability to determine the role of particular sub-systems of culture; - ability to analyse political and social processes in Eastern cultures; - ability to identify mutual social, political, and cultural influences of Europe and the East; - ability to make a comparative approach towards various aspects of Eastern and Western culture; - comprehension of determinants and problems of Eastern minorities in European countries - ability to analyse issues concerning assimilation and acculturation of emigrants from the East - ability to present effects of his/her analysis in the form of essay or a speech; - linguistic skills in accordance with requirements stated for the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages COMPETENCES: - ability to cooperate and work in a group, acting in various roles; - awareness of the role of cultural heritage of their own country, as well as other cultural traditions; - awareness of the need of tolerance and respect to other cultural traditions - participation in cultural life in variety of its forms, and using various media; - ability to think and act in a creative way - ability to supplement as well as improve the acquired knowledge and skills on his/her own; - comprehension of the need of developing his/her interests - awareness of the ethical dimension of scientific research
